How Much Raw Dog Food Should You Feed Your Dog?

Too much? Too little? Or just right? 🐶

When switching to raw dog food, one of the first questions many pet parents ask is: How much should I actually put in my dog’s bowl?

The answer depends on more than just your dog’s size.

Start With Your Dog’s Weight — But Don’t Stop There

A common starting point for adult dogs is to estimate daily food at around 2–3% of their ideal body weight. For example, a 10 kg adult dog might start at roughly 200–300 g per day.

But this is only a general guideline, not a rule for every dog. Age, activity level, metabolism, body condition, and the calorie content of the food all matter. Puppies, highly active dogs, and dogs that need to lose weight may have very different requirements.

And remember: 300 g of one recipe may provide a different amount of energy than 300 g of another.

Let Your Dog’s Body Condition Guide You

Your dog’s weight is only one part of the picture. Check their body condition regularly: you should generally be able to feel their ribs without pressing too hard, and they should have a visible waist when viewed from above.

If your dog is gaining or losing weight unexpectedly, adjust portions carefully and seek veterinary advice when needed. Keeping a simple record of their weight and daily portions can help you spot changes early.

Is More Food Always Better?

Not necessarily! Feeding too much can lead to unwanted weight gain, while feeding too little can leave your dog short of the energy and nutrients they need.

When choosing raw dog food in Bali, make sure you're considering both portion size and nutritional balance. A complete, balanced diet matters just as much as the number of grams in the bowl.

The takeaway:Ā Start with an appropriate estimate, monitor your dog, and adjust to their individual needs. Because the best portion isn't the biggest one — it's the one that helps your furbaby thrive.
